When to go

Mai Chau is a district of Hoa Binh Province, is located around 140km (3-3.5 hours driving) from Hanoi, thus, it’s one of the most popular destinations in the North of Vietnam besides Halong and Sapa.

Mai Chau is in the tropical monsoon climate zone. It is cold in the winter with less rain and hot with much rain in the summer. The mean temperature is over 23oC. The highest temperature is recorded in July at average of 27-29oC, while the lowest temperature is reported in January in the range of 15.5 - 16.5oC.

Tourists can visit Mai Chau all year round. But due to the climate zone features, tourists can take some notes as below:

  1. December – January and first half of February (winter): pretty chilly, in the middle of winter
  2. Second half of February, March (spring): best time to visit Mai Chau with warm weather and great sceneries.
  3. April, May, October, November (early of summer and the late of fall): Best time to visit Mai Chau with many sunny days, hot (but not too hot!)
  4. June, July, August, September (summer, fall): pretty hot, raining months (it might effects your outdoor trips sometimes)
